As I’m sure my followers are aware, I’m a big fan of the television show Mad Men, which has just begun its seventh and final season. While I’m sure whatever the writers have cooked up for us viewers will no doubt be very enjoyable TV, here’s how I would end the show if I were Matthew Weiner (even though no one’s asked me!)
We already know that Megan has moved out to L.A. to try and break into Hollywood, and I think Don will eventually join her there full-time and work with Pete on Sunkist or some other account in the hope that a change of scenery will be a chance for a fresh start with his wife, who will soon become pregnant. Sadly, she will be tragically murdered by the Manson family, which now includes Roger’s daughter Margaret among its members, while attending a party at the home of a famous director.
Don, crippled by grief, will have an emotional breakdown. He realizes that he can no longer keep “changing the conversation,” and has no control over his world anymore. He then purchases a plane ticket in the name of “D. Bertram Cooper,” in honor of his former mentor and boss Mr. Bert Cooper who has recently died peacefully. He boards the plane, has a few cocktails and flirts with the stewardesses in that signature Don Draper way. Then we know what happens next because it’s in the history books, proving to the dear viewer that life is indeed far stranger than fiction.
Epilogue: Pete falls down the stairs again and Bob Benson laughs so hard he drops his coffee cup. Joan becomes the president of Sterling Cooper after Cooper’s death and Peggy becomes head of creative but eventually dies an old maid. Roger Sterling remains his hedonistic self, but he forms a strong relationship with his son Kevin.

Over the course of the last two weeks I have watched all of the Sergio Leone films, he is one of my favorite directors. I couldn’t recommend his work more highly. My personal favorites are For A Few Dollars More and Once Upon A Time In America, but each one is great.
